Tracing its heritage back to Gibson’s classic Super Jumbo designs of the late 1930s, this guitar offers the bold projection and deep resonance associated with the legendary J-series acoustics.

A 1990 Gibson J-100 in Vintage Sunburst finish is especially prized for its warm, mature tone and understated vintage aesthetic.

Built in Gibson’s Bozeman, Montana acoustic workshop during a highly regarded production era, the 1990 J-100 typically features a solid spruce top paired with maple back and sides, delivering a sound that is powerful yet balanced — with strong bass response, crisp trebles, and excellent projection.

The large jumbo body produces a rich, room-filling voice that suits both strumming and singer-songwriter accompaniment exceptionally well.

The Vintage Sunburst finish gives the guitar a classic Gibson appearance, fading from a warm amber center to darker outer edges while allowing the grain of the spruce top to remain visible.

Early 1990s examples are often noted for their elegant simplicity compared with the more ornate SJ-200, featuring dot inlays, a rosewood fingerboard and bridge, and traditional nickel tuners with pearl buttons.

Tonally, players often describe these guitars as “cannons” because of their volume and strong low-end presence.
